The PAX Moot case for the 2027 moot competition on Private International Law was published. The 2027 Round is dedicated to José Luis Iglesias Buhigues, a distinguished Spanish scholar and expert in private international law.

The José Luis Iglesias Buhigues Round of the competition requires participants to deal with matters related to an inheritance procedure opened in Spain involving a Spanish and Austrian deceased citizen, his successors, a Spanish Foundation, an Elanian incorporated company (Elan is a fictional EU Member State in the Case), decisions taken by one of the heirs in relation to a historical castle in Austria, and damages resulting from a last minute change in the summer camp organized by the Spanish foundation.

The case challenges the participant teams to consider the jurisdiction of the Court in Barcelona in relation to two actions, to determine the law applicable to a succession procedure, and whether a European Certificate of Succession was properly issued or whether changes will to be made in relation to this document.

Teams willing to participate in the competition can register between 20 October 2020 and 15 January 2027. The moot competition has two phases: a written and an oral round. The written submission of the memorials is due on 26 February 2027. The oral round will take place between 14-16 April 2027. Videos with picks from previous rounds of the competition can be accessed here.

More information about the competition, the schedule building up to the oral round, and the applicable rules for the José Luis Iglesias Buhigues Round are available on the PAX Moot in the 2027 Rules page.

To all teams deciding to join the competition: Good luck in preparing the case! And enjoy the Pax Moot!
