Readers of the EAPIL blog are warmly invited to interact with the editors and between themselves. Interaction may occur in various forms.

Comments

Comments on published posts, as well as replies to other readers’ comments, are highly appreciated.

Please note all comments are moderated. It may take a few hours before a comment is examined for the purposes of moderation: thanks in advance for your patience!

Unless you see strong reasons for making an anonymous comment, please state your first name and your family name, as this makes interaction more fruitful and encourages further exchanges.

Guest posts

The blog regularly hosts guest posts written by readers. Those interested in submitting a guest post are invited to do so by sending their text (saved as a .doc file) to the managing editor at blog@eapil.org.

Please make sure you have considered the following before you share with us a text for publication:

  • subject matter: we will consider for publication texts relating primarily to private international law, or having an interest for those dealing with private international law, academically or professionally; posts focusing on national developments (recent case law of domestic courts, recent or on-going national reform, etc.) are most welcome; just remember that the readers of the EAPIL blog come from different countries and may not be familiar with the peculiarities of the country concerned: make sure your text comes with the necessary background information;
  • geographical focus: the EAPIL blog is primarily concerned with European developments in private international law, regardless of whether they relate to the European Union, a particular EU Member State or a European State outside the Union; posts concerning developments in other continents are also welcome, but the authors are invited to indicate in which way the issue addressed can be of interest for readers whose main concern is with European private international law;
  • authorship: please make sure the text includes the first name, family name and academic or professional affiliation of the author(s);
  • originality: the EAPIL blog only hosts texts that have not been published elsewhere; if you send us a text that you have submitted for publication elsewhere, please let us know;
  • length: as a rule, your text should not exceed 10.000 characters, including spaces, in length;
  • structure: posts normally consists of sections, each bearing a title (not a number); please avoid subsections, unless they are absolutely necessary;
  • footonotes: the posts we publish do not feature footnotes; rather, if you refer to sources that area available on-line, please provide a link to such sources; any other source (e.g., journal articles) should be referred to in the text with the customary details (name of the author, title, etc.);
  • style: bold letters cannot be used; please, refer to normative texts, especially EU legislative measures and multilateral conventions by the respective short denomination, as used in practice (e.g., the Brussels I bis Regulation, or the Hague Child Abduction Convention), and make sure the first occurrence of the term includes a link to the official source where the full text of instrument in question can be retrieved (in the case of EU legislation, the ELI of the latest consolidation version as available through EUR-Lex);
  • title: all guest posts should come with a title; opt for very short titles (please do not exceed 15 words);
  • linguistic quality and proofreading: all posts and guest posts that appear on the EAPIL blog are in English; guests are encouraged to make sure their texts have been proofread and are of publishable quality;
  • editorial work: the editors in charge of a guest post may request the authors to carry out some editorial variations, or directly introduce small variations of this kind in the texts received; the latter changes will be notified to the post’s author in advance unless they merely fix typos and clerical mistakes, or ensure compliance with the above guidelines.

Submissions for guest post are reviewed by one or more editors and/or external referees. The process can take up to four weeks to complete. Reasons for rejection are not shared with the authors.

Monographs’ presentations

The authors of monographs or long essays dealing primarily with issues of private international law are encouraged to prepare a guest post presenting the main findings of their research, and send it with the managing editor at blog@eapil.org.

Reviews of recent monographs by readers other than the concerned monograph’s author will also be considered.

Presentations and reviews of works originally written in languages other than English are especially welcome.

The above guidelines for guest posts also apply for presentations and reviews, with the appropriate adaptations (in particular, authors should not feel they have to comply with the length limit of 10.000 characters, provided above, where to do so would preclude the readers from understanding the key passages of the reasoning that supports their conclusions).

Advertisement of upcoming scientific events

The organisers of scientific events (and/or call for papers) dealing with private international law are invited to share with the readers of the blog the basic information regarding their initiatives.

To ensure the (swift) publication of posts advertising upcoming events, the organisers are invited to send a presentation (saved as a .doc file) to the managing editor at blog@eapil.org.

Presentations of events should normally not exceed 3.500 characters in length, spaces included, and should feature a link to a website where the full programme and the details regarding registration and attendance are available. Please specify whether attendance is in-person or (also) on-line, and indicate the working language(s) of the event.

Advertisement of open academic positions

The above indications regarding events apply mutatis mutandis to the advertisement of the opening of academic positions.
