EAPIL Winter School: A Preview of the 2027 Edition
Building on the success of the three previous editions (here; here and here), the third edition of the EAPIL Winter School is currently being organised by the European Association of Private International Law and the Department of Law, Economics and Cultures of the University of Insubria in Como, in cooperation with the Law Faculty of the University of Murcia and the Law Faculty of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków.
The format of the 2027 edition will differ, exceptionally for a transient year, from that followed in the previous editions, as it will consist of a series of hybrid seminars that will take place between mid-January and the end of March 2027.
The EAPIL Winter School will be devoted to the challenges posed by technologies in European Private International Law. The various facets of the subject will be discussed by a rich list of speakers.
Pedro de Miguel Asensio (Complutense University of Madrid) is going to set the scenario presenting the foundations of the cross-border challenges of online activities. Javier Carrascosa González (University of Murcia) will tackle love, and the celebration and cross-border recognition of online marriages. Martina Melcher (University of Graz) will present the recent case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union on online gambling. Pietro Franzina (Catholic University of the Sacred Heart) will deal with the jurisdictional issues of infringement of rights under the GDPR. Some lectures on digitalisation follow. Caroline Kleiner (University Paris Cité) is going to offer some insights on the currently debated topic of digital currencies, while Matthias Lehmann (University of Vienna) will discuss more globally digital assets. On a similar vein, Anna Wysocka-Bar (Jagiellonian University in Kraków) will face the challenges of succession in these assets. A part of the lectures cannot but be devoted to artificial intelligence: Marion Ho-Dac (University of Artois) will discuss the EU AI Act; Michiel Poesen (University of Aberdeen) will present the latest remarks on generative AI in copyright. Some specific torts are going to be dealt with: Marta Pertegás Sender (University of Maastricht, University of Antwerp) will present the global facets of the infringement of IP rights online and Thomas Kadner Graziano (University of Geneva) is going to face the responsibility through (or by) self-driving vehicles.
The full programme, with a link to registration, will be published in September 2026.
