EAPIL to Renew Its Governing Bodies
As announced earlier on this blog, the next EAPIL Conference will take place in Geneva from 18 to 20 June 2026.
In the run-up to the Conference, elections will be held for both the Board of Administration and the Scientific Council of the Association in accordance with the EAPIL Statutes.
EAPIL’s governing bodies play a vital role in advancing the Association’s mission to promote the study and development of private international law and foster collaboration between academics and practitioners across Europe and beyond.
Serving on the Board of Administration or the Scientific Council offers the opportunity to shape EAPIL’s strategic direction, support academic initiatives, and contribute to a vibrant international community in private international law.
Which Positions are Open for Election?
The upcoming elections are convened to renew both the Board of Administration and the Scientific Council of the Association
The Board of Administration (Article 13 of the EAPIL Statutes)
The Board of Administration is responsible for the day-to-day management of the Association and implementation of General Assembly decisions. The Board comprises three to seven ordinary members appointed by the General Assembly. Functions such as President, Treasurer, Secretary General and, where applicable, Vice-President and Deputy Secretary General, are assigned from among (and by the) Board members.
The term of office is four years and may be renewed once, with the exception of the Secretary General’s term of office which may be renewed indefinitely. Eligible are all ordinary members of EAPIL. No more than three members having their main professional affiliation in the same State may sit on the Board at one time.
Of the current board members, Gilles Cuniberti, Morten Fogt, Pietro Franzia and Apostolos Anthimos have served for two terms. The only board members who may run for reelection are Agnieszka Frackowiack-Adamska, current EAPIL Vice-President and local host of the 2024 EAPIL Wroclaw conference, and Giesela Rühl, current EAPIL Secretary General.
The Scientific Council (Article 12 of the EAPIL Statutes)
The Scientific Council is responsible for organising the Association’s academic activities and advising on matters of scientific interest. It is composed of up to 20 ordinary or honorary members. Board members are ex officio members of the Scientific Council.
The term of office is four years, renewable twice. Eligible are all ordinary and honorary members of EAPIL. No more than four members with the same principal affiliation in one State may serve at the same time. All current Council member may run for re-election.
It is expected that members of the Scientific Council will be actively involved in the activities of the Association, either by contributing to the existing ones (blog, conferences, representing the Association in meetings of international organisations etc. ), by chairing new working groups, or by launching entirely new activities.
